What Is Restylane?

Published July 18

Restylane is a clear gel of hyaluronic-acid to add volume and fullness to the skin to improve moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. This filler can also be used for lip enhancement.

This procedure is perfect for people who are seeking to smooth fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. Keep in mind that even though Restylane will improve your skin appearance if you want to fill deep wrinkles, it is better to use more powerful procedures, such as Juvederm.

Restylane was approved by the Food And Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003. Please take notice that it was not authorized to be used by anyone under 21.

This hyaluronic-acid based filler is mostly used to smooth wrinkles on your cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, and around the mouth.

According to The Face Place Medispa, the procedure is performed in a doctor’s office with local anesthesia, and it takes less than an hour to do it. You can go home right afterward. The recovery time is quick so that you can go back to work immediately.

Keep in mind that since it is an elective cosmetic treatment, Restylane is not covered by health insurance. The cost depends on the number of doses used. One injection costs around $275.

One of the greatest benefits of Restylane is that you can see results almost immediately after the treatment. You will notice how the volume underneath your skin starts smoothing out wrinkles right after the first dose. The complete results can be visible within a week to two weeks after the treatment.

How Is The Procedure?

As we mentioned before, the cosmetic treatment is easy as it involves no incisions. It is generally done with local anesthesia to prevent any discomfort. Depending on how many Restylane doses you are going to receive, the procedure can last up to forty-five minutes.

Usually, the doctor will choose one or more injection areas for the treatment. These areas will be clean with an antiseptic, and the doctor will determine how much Restylane is required. He or she will inject the dose under your skin using an ultrafine needle.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of using Restylane are:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain and itching at the injection area
  • Headache
  • Infection

It is critical to know that people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking blood thinners, and immunocompromised should avoid using Restylane. You need to consult a doctor if you suffer from severe allergies.
Restylane is a great way to target wrinkles around the mouth, add volume to the cheeks, enhance the lips, and minimize dark circles under the eyes. For more information, call The Face Place Medispa!
